Meditation/Visualization Experts? How can i clear my mind and use meditation to heal my body?
Q. I've heard that meditation and visualization can help cure problematic things within the body. Every time i try to meditate instead of visualizing what i want i visualize what i'm afraid of and what i have. Its uncontrollable. I try to calm my mind and do a self-hypnosis if you will to clear my mind completely and visualize positively but my thoughts seem to be contradictive and sparatic even during meditation. Can anyone give me any advice on how to meditate/visualize properly and positively?

A. Let your thoughts be like watching a parade. Let them pass by without attaching your thought to any one...just let them go on by. Peace, Woodstock

Why do meditation Gurus and their followers believe in reincarnation, soul and destiny?
Q. It is scientifically proven that meditation is stress reliever and provider of positive mental state. It helps in concentration in the study and the work. Then even after years of being in regular mediation, why do meditation gurus and their followers believe in reincarnation, soul, destiny based on previous life, etc which are not recognized by science? Cant they still see things as they are?

A. Excellent question! I can only comment from a Buddhist point of view, being that I haven't studied any other forms of meditation. Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche (a Tibetan Lama who taught in the US in the 1960's) was once asked, "If there is no Self, what is it that gets reborn?" He answered, "Well, I hate to tell you this, but it's mostly your bad habits." (not a direct quote, but close enough) Buddhists tend to view rebirth in two ways -- microcosmic (the moment to moment conditional arising and passing away of all phenomena, including our sense of "I" or "Self") and macrocosimic (being reborn as another being life after life depending on one's previous actions, thoughts and intentions). Not all Buddhists believe in macrocosmic rebirth, and… [cont.]

What are the health benefits for meditation?
Q. I heard many doctors feel that the practice of meditation is good for a persons health. But the only thing I heard is that it relaxes the body so that the natural defences have a better opportunity to fend off viruses.

A. Along with doing that there are many other benefits of meditation. It provides a inner peace to you which is good for your soul. :) It provides good exercise for your heart and lungs. It gives your mind a serious break (everyone needs them!) At times your mind is processing a million different things at a time. You would get tired too!

A. I am a Buddhist and practice meditation every day. The benefit is the calming of the mind, which in turn will make you a happier person. The improved disposition will help you display more kindness and compassion to others, and because of this you will benefit with good Karma.

How to keep from falling asleep during meditation?
Q. I fall asleep 10 minutes into meditating, no matter what time of day it is. This is even after I have pulled 10 hours of night slumber. I am beyond desperation, PLEASE help me to not fall asleep in meditation!

A. A few possible suggestions... First, check your posture. Ninety percent of the times I start to nod off, I find that I've allowed my head/spine to slump slightly. I remind myself to imagine trying to touch ceiling with top of my head, and find that I sit a bit more upright. Second, check that your head is level. Some say that tilting head downward encourages dozing, while any upward tilt encourages thoughts. Do not confuse maintaining a level head with gazing slightly down with eyes (desirable for most). Third, I don't know what technique you use, but I practice maintaining focus/awareness of my breath. I find every time I start to nod off, it happens to occur when I've lost focus/mindfulness on breath and has instead become… [cont.]

What are the differences between astral projection and meditation?
Q. I know they are not the same but if one is meditating is it possible that they could astral project if they are deep enough in meditation? I guess it would take years or a lifetime to be able to get to that point. The reason why I'm asking is that I want to learn to meditate but do not wish to astral project. I read the answers posted so far and that is what I thought. The reason why I don't want to astral project is because it is possible to open yourself up to evil presences. I would be interested to know how the experience feels however to those who have tried it. Also do you think it is possible to open yourself to an evil presence while mediatating? I have never heard such a thing and they always say that mediation is good for… [cont.]

A. sorry guys while all your answers are nice and somewhat accurate none of them are 100% correct. astral projecting happens in a state of sleep and it is your soul leaving your physical body, but don't wonder away too far because your connected by a silver cord which is also mentioned in the bible and if the cord breaks which is like an umbilical cord you can not return to your physical body...your dead. and meditation is just a state of relaxation so relaxed you may get sleepy but you don't actually fall asleep.

How long does it take have a really powerful meditation experience?
Q. I've been meditating 20 mins a day for about 2 months now. I have noticed that it has become way easier to turn off my thoughts when I go to meditate. But How long will it take me to get to the level to have a really vivid and powerful meditation experience?
Asked by JayH - Sat Mar 14 17:44:26 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The most significant thing meditation can do for you is make your life better... and oddly enough, it will be the people around you that start noticing the difference, since it is such a natural change. Instead of having 2 days a week when you feel great, it will be 3... and then after some time if will be 4 and so on. It is a gradual change. A flashy experience may be a quick thrill, but those things do not bring the 24-7 day experience of a better life. You are doing great. Do you know how many people are searching for something that will improve their lives and have not found it? You found it. Stick with it. You are doing better than you know.

How should I teach meditation to my anxious 15 year old son?
Q. Meditation is easy for me. I grew up with visualization, body scans, guided meditation, counting, breathing, naming thoughts (probably what he needs most) and more. I just don't know where to start with my son. Any suggestions on teaching or introducing meditation to a teenager? Books? Courses? Videos? Where to start with good old dad? Thank you.
Asked by CommanderCrusty - Sun Oct 4 10:11:04 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I think that the best way to start is with the observation of the breath, is easy to do, easy to understand and is something that doesn't need any additional material to read. If you have done it for some time you can explain to him how to do it. Also by observing the breath is very easy to deal with anxiety, is very easy to notice, so he can be motivated to continue doing it. Another option is checking if there's a center near your place and take him to a one day Anapana course for teens, I added the page to the sources so you can check when are they going to be.

A. Kundalini sadhana is one of meditation techniques. What you are feeling is not movement of kundalini but movement of Prana in sushmna nadi. This is possible that you did some sadhna and it caused kundalini to be activated (not awakened and moving upward) you have to work hard to get kundalini taken upward but it should not be done without a guru

A. Our minds get so bogged down with busyness and worry. we never give it a break! Meditation is the process of doing just that, giving your mind a break. Meditation is the process of clearing your mind of everything, of finding a peace and a calmness within yourself. it can be very refreshing. Find a nice quiet place, sit comfortably strait up not hunched forward with your hands together, slow and steady your breathing and concentrate only you your breath, eventually you will concentrate on nothing at all. My suggestion is to get a book that will help you to understand it and achieve successful meditation easier.

Q. I often get terrible physical stagefright when doing assignments infront of class in college. I realized that always right before I present I can tell my heartrate is going through the roof to where I can barely talk and my hands shake violently. I think most of my problem with this is physical so if I did a meditation technique before class or something just before my presentation it would help. Any ideas?

Spiritually does meditation water your roots like the watered roots do for the flowers blooming?
Q. Is the meditation you are doing bearing fruit? Does it feels good when doing it but seems to be going nowhere? If so, have you tried modern techniques like Asharishi yoga? Asha Sanskrit root meaning for the eternal law. Rishi Seer or one with awareness. Yoga Union.
