From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Research can be defined as the search for knowledge or as any systematic investigation to establish facts. The primary purpose for applied research (as opposed to basic research) is discovering, interpreting, and the development of methods and systems for the advancement of human knowledge on a wide variety of scientific matters of our world and the universe. Research can use the scientific method, but need not do so. Scientific research relies on the application of the scientific method, a harnessing of curiosity. This research provides scientific information and theories for the explanation of the nature and the properties of the world around us. It makes practical applications possible. Scientific research is funded by public authorities, by charitable organizations and by private groups, including many companies. Scientific research can be subdivided into different classifications according to their academic and application disciplines. Artistic research, also seen as 'practice-based research', can take form when creative works are considered both the research and the object of research itself. It is the debatable body of thought which offers an alternative to purely scientific methods in research in its search for knowledge and truth. Historical research is embodied in the scientific method. The phrase my research is also used loosely to describe a person's entire collection of information about a particular subject. How much research experience during the undergraduate years looks best to have if you want to get into a research oriented medical school or go for an MD/Ph.D progam? Asked by Rachel - Fri Oct 3 16:00:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. First, I don't know of many medical schools that aren't research-oriented, if there are any. If you're going for an M.D., you don't have any reason to do research as an undergraduate unless you plan on a research career. In which case, you'd be better off with a Ph.D. than with an M.D., or with the extra years required for an M.D./Ph.D. Undergraduate research might look good on your application for a highly competitive school, though. The folks I've known who have M.D./Ph.D.'s mostly didn't do any undergraduate research, and the majority of them never used their Ph.D., which means they wasted a lot of time to wind up in clinical practice anyway. The rest never use their M.D., so there's 4 years wasted of memorizing minutiae to pass… [cont.] Answered by Bored Now - Fri Oct 3 16:24:13 2008 What current research is being conducted to make blood transfusions safer and more efficient? Q. I am conducting a biology assignment which asks for current areas of research as described above. I read about the findings into nitric oxide and the redistribution of this into blood products. Is anything currently (2009) being done about this? Asked by IvaForgotten - Wed Nov 11 02:22:48 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you're doing a research assignment. I hope you aren't expecting someone to write your paper for you. Your best bet is to check out papers from a source like JSTOR or Google Scholar. Q. I've seen research subs go down to the ocean floor but big naval ones cant. Why is that? Asked by Stephen B - Thu Jun 12 14:59:18 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The bigger ones are designed to launch nuclear missles or destroy other ships and really have no reason to dive to the deepest depths of the ocean and because of their size would be way too expensive to do so..
